"Firepit"- Hammered copper bowl with a natural patina. This bowl measures approximately 7"X7". This piece is called "Firepit" because it reminds me of a most recent time when I have gathered with friends around a fire. There is something primal about gathering around a fire. As we are all drawn to the heat that the fire provides....somehow, we are reminded that as people, we all need the same things: food, shelter, safety, friendship, and love.
I hope to create pieces that will give inspiration to others. I am inspired by everyday things...by animals, flowers, buildings, weather, people, and music. I try to create pieces that are symbolic reflections of my life. I also like to create pieces that are meaningful and special to the wearer.
I love working with copper. It is an evolving and unpredictable metal. When heat is applied, it changes colors that are beyond the control of the artist. I find this to be pretty cool. It reacts to humidity, light, temperature, and body chemistry. It becomes this living and evolving organism that is beautiful, flawed, ever changing, unpredicatable, and full of surprises...much like people.
